Group Therapy
The Time for Community is Now
Now more than ever, we need to find community that is supportive, healthy, and helps us find hope even when the world is quite literally on fire. From feeling the increased impact of climate change, to weathering the political storm as rights and protections are threatened daily for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC folks, immigrants, and people seeking reproductive healthcare, we are navigating in real time what it means to have community support. For both teens and young adults, finding a place to let it all out as well as build community in real-time can be life-giving.
Can group therapy actually help?
Group therapy is an amazing opportunity to work on new skills and connect with other people going through some of the same challenges you may be facing. In group, you get a chance to talk about what you’re up against (that you may not be ready to talk about yet with your friends or loved ones) and get help and advice right away from both a therapist and your peers.
If you are struggling with:
Facing homophobia or transphobia in your life and wanting to build more community in a safer space with other queer, trans and gender expansive folks
Anxiety and stress from applying to school and trying to figure out how to balance everyone’s expectations
Transitioning to college and feeling anxious and unsure of yourself or your future plans
Feeling like no matter what you do it’s hard to make friends or find people you really connect with
Then group therapy might be a great option for you.
What does group therapy involve exactly?
All of our groups include a mix of talking, arts-based activities and sometimes (when the group wants to) embodied work like stretching, mindfulness exercises or problem solving through role play. No artistic experience needed! The activities we engage in are determined through group consensus and are focused on helping to deepen the conversation or questions the group is grappling with.
Current groups include:
LGBTQIA+ Tween Support Group (12 weeks, In Person, Ages 9-12)
LGBTQIA+ Teen Support Group (12 weeks, Virtual, Ages 13-17)
Young Adult Support Group (Ongoing, Virtual, Ages 18-24)
Transition to college (12 weeks, Virtual, Ages 18-25)
Groups are capped at a maximum of 8 participants per group to ensure each person has space to be heard and supported. Most groups run for a duration of 12 weeks, with the exception of the Young Adult Support Group which is an ongoing group. An ongoing group means that group members start with a 12-week commitment, and then decide if they are ready to graduate from the group or if they would like to continue for ongoing support and connection. As new spots open up we are able to welcome new members into the group.
